Learn About Us

Hand on Heart Cameroon (HoH) is a community-driven mental health organization working to close the mental health care gap in Cameroon. Rooted in local realities and guided by scientific evidence, we strengthen mental health awareness, prevention, and access to care — especially in underserved and rural communities. By combining community training, clinical partnerships, research, and digital tools, we aim to build a sustainable mental health ecosystem that is accessible, culturally relevant, and stigma-free.

We work at the intersection of community outreach, clinical collaboration, research, and digital innovation. Our projects include training community health workers and nurses, supporting mental health care in clinical settings, collecting and publishing local data, and building a national mental health network through mapping and digital platforms. Together, these efforts aim to close gaps between communities, professionals, and care.

Our mission is to improve mental health and wellbeing in Cameroon by empowering communities, strengthening local health systems, and making mental health knowledge and care accessible to all. We focus on prevention, early identification of severe cases, and ethical, evidence-based interventions — always grounded in local needs and realities.

HoH is led by a multidisciplinary team of local and international professionals, researchers, and community actors. We work closely with community health workers, nurses, clinicians, and academic partners to ensure that our work is both scientifically sound and deeply rooted in lived experience. Learn More
